Japan. New ideas start here

The COVID-19 crisis has tremendously affected the meetings industry – in Japan and around the world – and has forced us to suspend our travels and events. For the time being, Japan’s borders remain closed to a large number of countries. While we wait to meet again, Japan’s MICE sector is strengthening its health and safety measures, while JNTO is maintaining its support for future activity.
In this edition, we aim to give you a clear understanding of the situation in Japan as we show you how cities, venues, hotels, DMCs and airlines are preparing to welcome you back safely.
We hope to see you again soon!

• Domestically, Japan completely lifted its state of emergency on 25th May, as it reached its target of 0.5 daily cases of infection per 100,000 people. Nevertheless, the authorities remain cautious and call for vigilance.

• Happo-en
Happo-en, a venue designed to offer a calming retreat, strives to prevent the spread of the coronavirus thanks to the following rules. Staff members’ temperatures are monitored daily, and they are required to wear masks at all times. Prior to entry, all tables and chairs are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The venue is set up with a one-meter gap in between each guest’s seat. The building is ventilated every hour for 10 minutes. For banquets and restaurants, all ceramic silverware is cleaned and disinfected before and after each use, and dishes are only served individually on a plate with a lid (buffets are currently unavailable). • Japan Airlines
To ensure your safety, Japan Airlines is strengthening its safety measures such as physical distancing, mandatory mask-wearing and the use of gloves by cabin crew during meal service. The aircraft cabins are carefully disinfected, paying special attention to contact surfaces. This type of procedure is also followed with care at the airport. The air filtration system in their aircraft purifies the cabin air every 3 minutes and is as effective as in a surgical operating room. From 1st July, JAL will resume its flights on a 2 flights per week basis between Paris, Frankfurt and Tokyo, and 3 flights per week between Helsinki, London and Tokyo. For more information, contact Ms. Ayako Nishimiya.
